I’ve finally gotten around to finalizing a business plan for a company I’ve been longing to start, and now the time has come to hit the crowdfunding circuit. Skinner’s Gourmet Sauces has been my baby, my strain and my inspiration as I mulled over a beautiful business model that will help me lead an ethical, sustainable and progressive project that will ensure that all staff are getting livable wages (a big issue here in South Africa) while leveraging its profits to create opportunities to reinforce and rebuild our weakest families.
I’ve perfected a series of South African inspired sauces that include products like our sweet Cape Malay curry BBQ to our sticky naartjie glaze. While they’ll definitely be familiar flavors for the South African clientele, the uniqueness of them will also have an international appeal. I can’t wait to watch this project flourish.
I finally bit the bullet and launched a crowdfunding campaign via GoGetFunding.com that is running through June 1st. We’re hoping to have the licenses and premises secured in either late 2019 or early 2020.
This project is the culmination of a lot of soul-searching, researching, and planning. I spent a lot of 2018 ironing out the kinks as I fought to create the next leg of my journey. This is something that I am incredibly excited to get off of the ground as soon as that foundation is laid!
It took me several years to figure it out, but it meant a lot to me to be able to create an opportunity to give back to the country I fell in love with. I want to help generate a new mindset around how businesses can and should run. I want to teach the public that it’s viable to ensure a decent standard of living while keeping costs low by sourcing locally. I want to return the love I’ve been shown in a way that will create a better future for generations to come.
